Corporate Wellness Through Yoga

meditation computer style 300x262 The WorkplaceYoga District’s mission is that every being deserves the holistic benefits of yoga as a practical tool of empowerment, health, and physical fitness.

Yoga is a time-tested practice that cultivates boundless levels of energetic and physical fitness. Just as we bring yoga to those who may not otherwise be able to experience the benefits of yoga, through our Yoga Activist branch, we have also designed a yoga program for the corporate employee. Corporate employees deserve the opportunity to reduce stress and tension AND become more physically fit. It’s a busy world we live in today, with increasing demands on employers and employees alike. We work long hours, often hunched over a computer. We skip meals, keep a phone glued to our ear, and rarely leave our workspace for a break. Before long, these work habits begin to take their toll on our bodies and minds in the form of stress, tension and sickness. And while a mild amount of stress can help us meet deadlines, too much stress, or constant stress, can interfere with numerous physical and mental abilities. How we respond to stress can have a significant impact on our total health. Yoga can remove stress from the body and mind.

Corporate Yoga Programs Have Many Benefits

  • Employees that are happy and full of energy, and as a result, more productive
  • Decline in stress-related sick occurrences
  • Improved concentration, decision-making skills and ability to multi-task
  • Improves employee alertness and ability to react more calmly in demanding situations
  • Relief of head, neck and back strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, insomnia, high blood pressure and work-related injuries from repetitive motion
  • Better customer service
  • Enhanced employee attitude and outlook
  • General well-being in the workplace which reduces employee turnover

Health is Wealth

It’s as simple as that. When we are healthy, we are better able to face challenges and give our best to whatever endeavor we undertake.

Recent research indicates that companies who offer yoga and wellness program to their employees reduce their annual health insurance premiums, and thereby improve their bottom line.

The Teachers

Julia Romano has been teaching at Yoga District for 3 years. She received her teaching certification in hatha and vinyasa flow through Yoga Alliance, and her classes focus on coordinating breath with body movement to promote flexibility, strength, and peace of mind. She strongly believes in yoga as therapy, so catch one of her Dharma Flow or Reboot classes when you need a healthy dose of self-care.

The Next Step

The Yoga District 200 and 500 hour teacher training certification programs, registered by the Yoga Alliance are unique in their emphasis on diversity of teaching styles studied, personal attention, and trauma sensitive yoga. It's no coincidence that Yoga District is regularly voted the leading studio in the nation's capital, and that most of its classes are taught by graduates of its training program. As a full time yoga school, small group trainings are led up to eight times a year by a dedicated faculty including Jasmine Chehrazi, contributor to the Harvard Karma Yoga Project teacher training, teacher training faculty at George Washington University, Yoga Alliance Standards Committee Advisory Board Member, Yoga Activist Founder, and Yoga Service Council Advisory Board Member. So take your practice and community involvement to the next level by joining a training. There's a reason why our graduates call the training "transformative."
